Most parameters can be modulated by various sources, so while it naturally excels in creating lofi, warm and (often unpredictable) evolving sounds, it's also great for creating modern and cinematic stuff or even better - a mixture of both. It's something that, we think, is quite special - add to that the unpredictable nature of tape loops, and you can spend hours messing with it. Funny enough, even we weren't expecting how versatile it'll end up be.

Furthermore, there's the new swarm mode (beside other modes like polyphonic, mono & legato). It's great for taking small portions of the sounds and smelting them into bigger evolving loops, or rain like droplets, or even turning them into smeared-out wall of sound, similar to how granular synthesis can sound.

These are actual cassette tape loops: warm, lofi and sometimes 'unstable'. This category contains both complex and simple sounds. Due to the nature of tape loops, using these can produce the most unique and beautiful results, especially when you start combining two sound sources together and then modulate everything using built in sequencers.

Loops were recorded at 80 BPM and are mostly 4 bars long (a few of the sounds are 2 bars long). Sounds from this category loop very smoothly and are synced to the host tempo thanks to Kontakt's time-stretching algorithm.

One of the most exciting aspects of Stylus RMX is that in addition to the massive Groove Control-activated core library and SAGE Xpanders that can be used with Stylus RMX, you can import your own audio loops for use in the Stylus RMX engine. This means unlimited possibilities for remixing your own loops by turning them into S.A.G.E. format Groove Elements that can be used in Stylus RMX.

ReCycle is a popular software program that can cut up an audio loop WAV or AIFF file into a sliced REX file that can be converted into Stylus RMX via the REX File Import feature of the RMX Standalone. REX files are useful because they are compatible with many other audio applications and hosts as well, including Reason, Logic, Cubase, Digital Performer, and many other DAWs.

Sustain loops are played as long as no Note Off event is encountered. They are always considered before normal loops, so if the sustain loop is placed beyond the normal loop, the normal loop is ignored at first. As soon as the sustain loop is exited (by means of a Note Off event), playback is resumed in the normal loop.

Note that sample loops have a peculiar behaviour if the ProTracker one-shot loops compatibility setting is enabled in the MOD format: If the loop start is set to 0, the complete sample is played first, after which it restarts and only the loop part is repeated. Since many MOD players do not support this ProTracker quirk, it is recommended to always trim samples (so that there is no more sample data after the loop end) or not start the sample loop at 0.

Above the sample display is a timeline which can be used for orientation. The timeline shows various arrows (yellow arrows for cue points, green arrows for regular sample loop points and cyan arrows for sustain loop points) which can be dragged using the mouse. Holding Shift while dragging allows to place the item more accurately. Right-click the timeline to change the unit used for display or insert a new cue point (if any unused cue points are available). Right-clicking a cue point allows you to delete that cue point.

Three freely assignable CV inputs per channel guarantee a lot of expression during performance. 16bit mono wav samples are loaded into RAM (32MB / 5 minutes of sampling time) from SD card (16 GB SD card with factory preset samples comes with the module) for instantaneous playback response.
